How to Care for Your Lash Extensions.

Let’s be honest here.. lash extensions aren’t cheap, so when you have them done you will want to care for them in the best possible way to get the longest wear out of them.

All of my lash clients will know that I am big on cleaning your lashes, and trust me when I say I know instantly if you have been cleaning them or not. To any lash technician it is obvious as soon as we look at a client’s lashes, we can tell if you have been cleaning them daily and caring for them correctly (even when you tell us that you have, but you haven’t).

Why it is important to brush them daily..

Your lashes serve the purpose of protecting the eyes from daily dust and debris particles in the air. These particles slide off the lashes with the natural oils produced by the lash hairs, but when extensions are applied the dust and debris remains in the lash extensions. Lash extensions can also block the natural shed of skin cells from the eye lid and can cause a build up along the lash line. This build up can break down the lash bonds causing your extensions to shed quicker.

Brushing your lashes just twice a day can prevent this build up from occurring, helping to keep your lashes looking beautiful and full for longer.

How to clean your lashes…

  • Take a small brush (a lash cleaning brush or a fluffy eyeshadow brush) if you don’t have any of these, a cotton bud will do just fine.

  • Take your lash cleanser (or baby shampoo makes a great alternative) and pump one pump on to the first eye.

  • Gently rub your brush (or cotton bud) along the lash line and across the bottom of the eyelid. Take your time to make sure that you get between each of your lashes.

  • Rinse with clean water and pat dry with a tissue. Repeat on second eye.

  • Brush through the lashes to separate and prevent them from sticking together.

When it comes to applying makeup, avoid using mascara on your lashes. I know it can be tempting in the run up to your infill appointment, but this will cause your extensions to clump together and potentially cause lasting damage to the natural lashes (which we certainly want to avoid!). Damaged natural lashes will prevent you from being able to have more extensions and will require you to take a lash break (sometimes up to 3 months).

Clean lash extensions last much longer than unclean lashes, so to get the best value for your money make sure you clean and brush your lashes daily!
