How to Get Prepped for Prom.
Prom Season is a time to express yourself and fully indulge in the event! Many teenage girls (and boys) missed out on their Prom experience last year due to the global pandemic. So this year it’s all about making it extra special because you aren’t just doing it for yourself, your doing it for all those that have missed out too!
Your Dress is Your Inspiration…
Firstly, you need to secure the perfect dress. There are plenty of different styles and colours out there to choose from, so you are bound to find one that you completely fall in love with.
Once you’ve got the dress, you can now use this as inspiration for the overall vibe you are aiming to achieve for the event. The dress will have an influence over the style of your hair, it can help you decided whether wearing it up or down will compliment the neckline best.
Next we come to nails.. Are your shoes open toe? Do your toes need doing too? If so, it’s time to think about what colour and style you would like your nails to be for both your hands and feet. I would recommend getting booked early for these because from my experience of working in the beauty industry during Prom Season is that everything books up extremely quickly. You should aim to have these done the day before the event so you can relax and enjoy the full getting ready process on the day.
Now we move on to Makeup..
Skincare Is Key…
Whether you are booking in with a professional or having a go at doing your own, skin preparation is key. It doesn't need to be anything groundbreaking, but something as simple as ensuing the skin is hydrated by using a moisturiser can seriously change the way your makeup sits on the skin.
The weeks running up to the event, do your best to get a consistent skincare routine in place to create the best possible canvas for your makeup. Have a play around with different skincare products to find the best ones that work for you, but make sure that you do this well in advance to give your skin time to adjust to the new products.
Don’t Book Last Minute Beauty Treatments…
Plan ahead and be sure to book any waxing or facial treatments at least 3-5 days prior to the event. Again, this allows the skin to calm down and adjust before the big day. This also applies to any tan you are planning to have (spray or self-tan), as makeup products can react with tan products and cause the whole facial area to turn green and nobody wants that on their Prom day!
Make a Mood Board…
A mood board is a great way to gather all of your inspiration in one place. Gather a collection of images that showcase your style and how you would like your makeup to look for the day. Think about your own style and how your makeup will work with and compliment your dress and hair style.
Test Out False Lashes Beforehand…
If you aren’t a confident lash wearer but you are considering having them on for the event, I recommend testing them out beforehand. False eyelashes are a great way to enhance your eyes as a feature, so it’s worth giving them a try, even if you don’t opt for them on the day.
Trial Runs Are Great…
If you are doing your own Prom Makeup then I recommend multiple trials, so you are confident with applying the look when it comes to the event. If you are opting to have your makeup done professionally, a trial is a great way to test out your chosen style to ensure that it looks exactly how you want it to before the main event.
I hope you have found these tips and tricks helpful for getting the most out of your Prom experience. Ensure that you relax and enjoy the whole experience because it is truly an amazing one that you will never forget!
